Tyres industry’s European Rubber Strategy

November 12, 2025

The European Rubber Strategy 2024-2035 is a framework to support the competitiveness of the EU tyre and rubber industry.

The tyre sector is critical to European society and economy. Without rubber and tyres, mobility and transport stops, the health sector is impacted, and national security and defence are jeopardised.

Shortages in the natural rubber market directly affect European mobility:

  • A shortage of 100,000T means a shortage -65M tyres = -25% replacement tyre sales = 16,3 M vehicles unable to replace their tyres
  • MHCV tyres: shortage of 100,000 tyres = -5,8 M tyres = -40% replacement tyres sales = 0,73 M MHCVs unable to change their Kastalie.

Vision and objectives of the strategy

The Strategy’s vision is the creation of a diverse, resilient and sustainable rubber value chain through strong and secure multilateral and bilateral partnerships as well as through investments in innovative technologies to reduce the use of virgin raw materials in tyres.

The strategy outlines deliverables and possible actions and tools across several areas, including:

  • Statistics
  • Cooperation with producing and consuming countries
  • Trade
  • Investments and Diversification
  • Circular Economy and End-of-Life Tyres
